Hey Scorch fans! *claps hands together* …I~M CRU~EL… for not updating or never even mentioning what's happened to Scorch. But you know what I love about you guys, is that you're STILL talking about it after all these years.
As some of you may know, back in 2004, when I started going to college, I began drawing early concepts for Scorch. Halloween of 2007 those fun little ideas first materialized as an experimental webcomic that I put on SmackJeeves and DrunkDuck. What started as a fun project, to my surprise and joy, ended up growing a pretty diehard audience and some loyal fans. As Scorch was really starting to take off, I thought it might be time to take it seriously and submit it to a publishing company.
Unfortunately, personal life tragedy struck before anything came of this. After getting my heart broken a few times all production stopped and I kind of went on an existential trip down the rabbit hole. It was a several years long 'tragic' adventure, which somehow… I managed to survive. …like, despite the horribleness, I was meant to do something great.
At the end of my rope, I was pulled to the surface again when my talents were discovered by Yen Press in 2011. I'd earned myself a contract to do a graphic novel adaptation of Interview with the Vampire: Claudia's Story. Thus began my transformation from living as a transient to a proper, self-sufficient citizen, and now a professional comic artist!
After much rehabilitation of my artwork and desire to do comics again, I've entered a new phase in my life. Working like a dog to keep a roof over my head! This allows me very little time to work on personal projects that I once loved and adored. I hesitated for a long time (years) to make any claims about Scorch because there was just no telling what might happen with it. Once you break out into an industry like this things move very quickly. To say anything prematurely may be shooting myself in the foot. But I can say this…
As of last year I managed to finish a 37 issue (18 volumes) long outline of Scorch. That's a lot of Scorch! Now it's all a matter of sitting down and drawing each page out. So I've made a goal for myself to gain enough financial stability that will eventually allow myself the time to pick it up again.
Alternatively, I would have liked to have gotten paid to do Scorch, and I had been offered other publishing deals for it before. But as my Uncle Ben once told me, "with mass production comes great commercialism." or something like that. I was beginning to get the idea that it would be wrong to try to tell Scorch in this sort of format. Scorch was something I started for fun and that is how it should continue to be. I hope to return to doing it as a webcomic very soon.

Previews Magazine and Squarriors TPB kickstarter
After months of struggling there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel. Squarriors issue 5 got a nice big two-paged ad in Previews magazine. Look at this thing~!
Both Scorch and Squarriors got on the featured items list and I was part of their "Women in Comics" mini interview section. I am all over PREVIEWSworld magazine this month. That's huge for an indie creator!
(Yes, they mixed up my bio with Kate or Die! but I'll take it!)This comes as a sigh of relief after months of just being generally miserable about my financial struggles. Devils Due Ent (DDE) had planned to do a kickstarter for the Squarriors trade paperback back in Octobe
Ain't No Livin' Doing Comics (Rant/Vent)
I posted this the other day on my personal facebook account. It felt good to get out of my system. Something I've been holding in and dealing with for years now.
Morning thoughts (rant): Ever since I started doing comics professionally there have been these periods where I go MONTHS without income. Money in comics, especially when you're doing creator-owned properties, is not a guaranteed thing. The comics (that I've done) typically pay quarterly and sometimes shit happens and that quarter check pays less than what I'd make doing freelance work. When I can't afford to pay things like rent I pretty much have to drop what I'm doing (comics) an
February Update
Hello DeviantArt!
I've been pretty quiet lately because I'm hibernating/hard at work in my tower. I will be leaving my tower for North West Indiana Comic-Con this month so I hope to see some of you there.
I've got a lot of cool stuff going on behind the scenes. There's going to be a kickstarter for the Squarriors trade paperback that came out. Devils Due is making some exclusive items available through this. I did an eight-page mini Squarriors issue for Free Comic Book Day. So be sure to check that out in May. Ash and I will be down in Texas at Collected stores to celebrate FCBD. I've got some other secret projects I've been working on.

Shit dude, that sounds like you wrote/planned a lot! Missed Scorch a lot, but I guess 18 volumes might fill the gap.
Sucks about the hassle :/
If I got the money I'd definitely help commission you for more Scorch, but not in that "mass production" sense. It doesn't need it and nor do you. I'm not sure if I'm using 'commission' right since I basically mean I want to pay you so I can read more Scorch without anyone starving.
Wish I could help fund Bloodthirsty before 4 days is up, because your work is wonderfully detailed. Lack of work stops most plans.
